Broadly defined, a synthesizer is any electronic device that creates the sounds of musical instruments. However, in this manual we'll be giving the term "synthesizer" a narrower meaning. For our purposes a synthesizer is an electronic device with a piano keyboard that produces the sounds of musical instruments.
