MUSIC LESSONS II has many time saving shortcuts.
When you see "Alt-M" or "Ctrl-M," this means hold down the Alt key or the Ctrl key and type m. The letter is shown in upper case, but you can type it in lower case.
You can open menus by holding down the Alt key and typing the letter underlined in the menu heading. Some menu items also have a direct Ctrl-key shortcut. Typing the Ctrl-key combination is the same as choosing the menu item.
The focused button is indicated by a dotted line along the edge of the button and a black outline around the button. Typing return or enter is the same as clicking the outlined button. Type the tab key to switch the focus to the next button. Type Shift-tab to switch the focus to the previous button.

Play
Type Command-L.

The MIDI Shortcuts page of the Preferences dialog lets you play keys on your MIDI keyboard instead of clicking the Check, Next, Play, and Show Me buttons, so that you won't have to move your hands back and forth between the MIDI keyboard and the mouse. See page 39.
Each dialog has a default button that has the initial focus when you open the dialog. You can type Return or Enter as a shortcut for clicking the focused button. Use the tab key to switch the focus to another button.
Typing the Escape key is the same as clicking the Cancel button.
A group of check boxes surrounded by a rectangular frame is called a cluster. Each cluster has a title. You can click the cluster title as a shortcut to turn all the check boxes within the cluster on or off quickly.
