Use the tab control at the top of the dialog box to access eight pages of user settings: General, Color, MIDI, Piano, Guitar, Sound, Shortcuts, and Sound Effects. The Piano page is shown in the picture below.

The following elements are common to all eight preferences pages:
When you click the Permanent button, the settings on the current page will be marked to be saved to the Preferences file and will be used every time you start the program. Be sure to click the Permanent button on every page you want saved.
When you click the OK button, the dialog will close, and the settings for any pages you marked as Permanent will be saved to the Preferences file and used every time you start the program. The settings for any pages not marked Permanent will be used until you quit from the program, but they will not be used the next time you start the program.
When you click the Cancel button the dialog will close, and all changes you've made within the dialog will be forgotten, including those marked Permanent.
Click the Reset button to reset the current page to MUSIC LESSONS II's original factory settings.

There is no Help button on the Macintosh preference pages. However, you can turn on Balloon Help from the Help menu and then move the mouse over items on the preference page to get help for those items.

Note: On Windows, the Preferences file is called "ML2Prefs.bin" and is in the Windows folder, usually C:\Windows. On Macintosh, the Preferences file is called "MUSIC LESSONS II Preferences" and is located in the Preferences folder inside the System folder.
