The Options menu contains commands that control your interactions with the program and your choices of instruments a sounds.

The first menu group on both Windows and Macintosh deals with setting up the sound input and output devices. A brief discussion follows. For a detailed discussion of sound and MIDI, see pages 41-58.

The Midi Input and Midi Output menu items list all installed MIDI and sound card drivers for your computer. Unless you are using a MIDI keyboard for sound input, you can ignore the Midi Input setting. If there is more than one Midi Output driver listed, you can try them all, and use the one that sounds best. For a detailed discussion of sound and MIDI, see pages 41-48..
Note: Most sound cards have MIDI capability. In that case you do not need an external MIDI device in order to use MIDI.

The Mac Sound, MIDI Sound, and QuickTime Sound menu items let you select the sound system you want to use. In general follow these guidelines.
· If you have a MIDI interface and a MIDI device, use MIDI Sound.
· If you do not have a MIDI device but have Apple Computer's QuickTime software, use QuickTime Sound.
· If neither of the above applies, use Mac Sound.

The Use Sound and Use Sound Effects items let you turn the sound and sound effects on and off.
The Practice Mode, Auto Next Question, and Fast Answer Checking items affect how you get new questions and how your score is recorded.
The Set Tempo item lets you choose the tempo MUSIC LESSONS II uses to play questions and answers.
The Piano and Guitar items let you choose the instrument layouts.
The Reset Scores item clears any unsaved scores and lets you start a session over.
