MiBAC will be in Hall A, Booth 6330 at the Edirol Partner Pavilion. With the new version 4.0, MiBAC has rewritten the software to take full advantage of the native CoreMidi and QuickTime features of Mac OS X. MUSIC LESSONS I is currently used in thousands of schools, colleges, music studios, and homes. Priced at $149, MUSIC LESSONS I version 4.0 for Mac OS X is available now from music software retailers or directly from MiBAC. The software is also available in Lab Five Packs ($447 MSRP) and Site Licenses ($999 MSRP). An upgrade path is available for previous owners of the program. “MUSIC LESSONS I combines music theory and ear training in a program that is easy to use, comprehensive, educationally proven, and so flexible that it works with students over a wide range of ages, musical abilities, and learning styles. It will help any music student learn and improve the skills and concepts that are essential to understanding music and playing an instrument,” said MiBAC president John Ellinger. Some of MUSIC LESSONS I’s features are: Hundreds of interactive drills arranged in twelve groups, each with multiple skill levels, provide a comprehensive study of music fundamentals. Each drill can be done in four clefs using a MIDI synthesizer or the on-screen piano, guitar, and alphabet block instruments. The drill groups include: Note Reading, Circle of Fifths, Key Signatures, Five Finger Positions, Major/Minor Scales, Modes, Jazz Scales, Scale Degrees, Intervals, Note/Rest Durations, Scales Ear Training, and Intervals Ear Training. You get instant visual and aural feedback on every question. If you don’t know an answer, the program will show you. If you don’t understand an answer, the comprehensive built in music theory reference is always available to explain clearly and completely every musical term and concept related to the drills. On-screen scores let you know how you’re doing and help keep you motivated. Multiple skill levels in each drill range from easy to difficult; choose the level that’s right for you and learn at your own pace. Customization options allow you to easily create and save drills and activities that focus on specific skills and study areas. Teachers can create custom levels for individual students, or prepare an entire curriculum in advance. Progress Reports keep a detailed record of your scores on every level of every drill. You can view or print the cumulative scores for an entire year or just the scores for a specific day. Teachers can use the cumulative score listing as an end of term assessment for each student. You can create, print, and save Progress Reports for an unlimited number of students. In the Fast Answer Checking mode you get new questions as fast as you can answer them. This is a great way to rapidly improve your musical skills, especially sight reading. An open-ended design lets you do the drills in any order you choose, practicing just what you need.
